Four-and-twenty robins

American robins have been everywhere this January – bright flashes of red against a pseudo-winter sky, clinging to branches as bare and crooked as their tiny claws.

There were at least forty of them fighting for a spot on the berry bushes. Perhaps the overnight dip in temperatures – down to a mere ten degrees this morning! – made them question their place in this landscape? The early bird may get the worm, but these harbringers of spring are so premature as to be rude!

  1. Love this post Ali, the picture is delightful and the wordage made me chuckle.

  2. Thank you! I think they’re in for a rude awakening when the hammer finally drops and the blizzards come roaring in….
