I decided to take a spin out to Humarock this afternoon. Wandering the beach with virtually no one else in sight, the slightly overcast sky peering over my shoulder… when out of nowhere, a beach ball came bouncing from the houses and towards the water. It was a bright pop of frantic color as it made its escape, bounding over the sand and into the waves like an overexcited puppy. No one chased after it. No one seemed to notice at all – even the seagulls were preoccupied with other important matters.
If I hadn’t had a camera, I’d think I imagined the whole thing.
Within minutes it was long gone, heading towards Spain or perhaps Bermuda. Somewhere out there tonight, an optimistic beach ball is skittering along waves and looking for adventure.
When the universe throws something like this at you, well, I take it on good faith that I need to acknowledge a tiny dot of color on an otherwise monochromatic day.
