This sign outside of St. Luke’s caught my eye. ASP stands for Appalachia Service Project, a program which brings volunteers to rural Appalachia to repair homes for low-income families. (For my international visitors – Appalachia refers to both a geographic and a cultural area of the United States which struggles with poverty and its associated ills.)
Scituate sends a group every summer. This year, two teams of 10 teens and 4 adult advisors are in Logan, West Virginia while an additional ten teams of 60 teens and 20 adult advisors have gone to Chapmanville, West Virginia. The kids who go down there will come back forever changed by what they have seen and done.
Thank to SDP readers Sue H. and Alison S. for the information on Scituate’s participation numbers. You should be very proud of your kids for being part of this team. 🙂
