TOWN OF SCITUATE MASSACHUSETTS
2012 Swim Season – Results from: 8/28/2012, Egypt Beach, Lighthouse and Peggotty CLOSED
Under MDPH regulations for beaches guidelines, beach operators must test all public ocean beaches for bacteria each week, using the enterococcus indicator organism. Under that guideline beach sampling will be weekly during the swim season, June until Labor Day. Single-sample test results cannot exceed a specified number of bacteria colonies per 100/ml sample. If they do, the beach must be closed to swimming. The maximum contamination is 104 Enterococci/100 ml. for ocean waters. There are 6 beaches that we test: Humarock, Peggotty Beach, Sand Hills, Egypt Beach, Lighthouse and Minot.
Maximum Contamination Level: 104 (would result in beach closing)
Enterococci/cfu/100 ml
For beach sample tests taken 8/28/12, results are as follows:
Minot – 10
Egypt – 41* Still Closed=exceeds Geometric mean
Sand Hills – <10
Lighthouse – 345=Beach is Closed
Peggotty – 529=Beach is Closed
Humarock – 20
As of today, 3 beaches are CLOSED- Egypt, Lighthouse and Peggotty. These beaches will be resampled today and results will be available Late tomorrow afternoon.
MAX. LEVEL is 104 col/100 ml.
Egypt was resampled this morning with the 5 other beaches and results should be available mid-afternoon.
Tested for Enterococci. Maximum Contaminant Level is 104 /100ml
