Poor little kitten has lost her…

Ali Crehan Photography: Scituate Daily Photo 2013 &emdash; Abandoned

Hat and inflatable toboggan. Hmm. Doesn’t quite scan, does it?

Yes, it’s another entry for my ‘objects that have been mislaid’ collection. I found this toboggan and hat on top of the highest hill at the Widow’s Walk golf course. There was another brightly colored toboggan on the other side of the green, similarly abandoned. I find these things and I can’t help but wonder what the story is. Did someone get hurt, prompting a hurried exit? How do you forget not one but two sleds? Were there tears at home when their absence was discovered? Or did someone’s child have an epic meltdown, leading the parent to say, “That’s it, we’re leaving!” and stagger back to the car carrying a soggy, flailing small body? (We’ve all been there, haven’t we, parents? Oh boy, have we ever…)

This little mystery was courtesy of sunny skies and thawing greens at the golf course. It was 48 degrees today, and funny, but it felt very warm – not at all like 48 degrees felt like in my house on Sunday, in the cold and the dark. There were a lot of us giddy sun-seeking types wandering the paths, and we stopped when we met and exchanged battlefield tales – how cold did it get for you, did you have a fireplace, did you stay, did you leave, how bad was it, really? We all feel a little like survivors. And the sun on our faces was wonderful.
