The milkweed pods are opening and their seeds go dancing on the autumn winds. When I was little, I loved to take an open pod and blow the seeds from my hand. I never gave them much thought beyond that simple joy.
It turns out that milkweed is quite a useful plant. It can be eaten and its floss can be used in place of down. And it is a favorite of the monarch butterfly.
But me, I like it because it’s pretty and because it reminds me of happy childhood times.
