My father, a lifelong Red Sox fan who’s made a second career out of his love for baseball, was at Fenway Park for Game 6 last night to witness the World Series win. Can I tell you how incredibly happy that makes me?
I dipped into the archives for this photo, because it sums it all up perfectly.

I’m pretty stoked, too, Ali. I have been a Red Sox fan since 1955. There were many lean years but also many great years. I followed the link to your dad’s website . . . very cool. While there, I read his recent article about Fred Lynn. Fred was my favorite player for several years. In 1974, the team wasn’t especially good, so I didn’t follow them very actively. One day in September I read that they had called up two kids from Pawtucket — Jim Rice and Fred Lynn — so I decided to go to the game after work. Lynn’s swing was the prettiest thing I had ever seen. (I thought Rice was musclebound and overswang, and predicted that he wouldn’t amount to much.) The next year, 1975, was magical and I followed them rabidly. Any way, congrats to the Red Sox. Thanks for stirring up the memories.
Great story, Jack! I shared it with my dad. 🙂
