Abandoned

Abandoned, originally uploaded by Ali Crehan.

Today’s photo is an awkward little shot of an awkward little building.

This small brick place is in the woods off Route 123, open to the elements with its roof and windows long gone. I caught a glimpse of it this morning as I was driving back into town and found a place to pull my trusty Gracie over and park. Between the ice and the mud I didn’t see any easy way to get closer, so I stood on the guardrail at the side of the road and did my best.

(In case you are wondering, yes, I do get odd looks from folks. But more often, I end up in great conversations with people. Unless I’m standing on a metal guardrail by the side of a busy road. Then I just get odd looks.)

I wonder about buildings like this – what is its story, past and present? My best guess is that it has something to do with the nearby water supply.

I may have to try to get closer when conditions are more favorable and I’ve invested in some waders!

  1. Interesting. It’s tiny, but it looks to be a perfect square. An old Pump House maybe?
