It’s the first day of a new month, and that means it’s Theme Day for City Daily Photo bloggers all over the world. This month’s theme is perspective.
My perspective? A view of a 40 foot pine tree which toppled during the height of Irene and now stretches mutely across the forest floor behind my house. I heard the cracking of its trunk as the winds shrieked and I stood at my back door to watch it fall. For a moment it looked as though its fellow pines would hold it aloft with their own branches. They all strained and swayed with the effort, and then with something like a sigh they gently let go… and all of us shook as it made contact with the ground.
Perspective. What once was there now is gone. What should we make of what remains?

Fantastic post for the theme day, that must have been something to see, you described it so well I could almost picture it myself. The full force of nature is a mighty thing.
She really was, mark, and it really is, PDP. The white pines are made for swaying in the winds and in previous storms I’ve watched them, always bending, never breaking, buffeted by the gusts. It was startling to see this tree fall.
