Today Scituate turned 375. That’s right, today is the town’s birthday!
To celebrate, Scituate 375th Anniversary Committee threw the town a birthday party at Scituate’s new Community Building (that’s the old Pier 44 restaurant, for you no-longer-local Scituatonians!).
The cake was made by Front Street Gourmet and was astonishingly beautiful, covered with fondant scenes from all around town. A certain young person I know waited patiently by the cake table until she was able to snag just the piece she wanted:
And yes, it did taste as good as it looked:
Happy birthday Scituate!!

Happy Birthday, indeed, Scituate! Nice cake.
Congrats to everyone who lives there, hope it was a special day for everyone…I didn’t know Pier 44 was no longer in business, but then it’s been 10 yrs since I was in town last. My family doesn’t share things like that with me, I guess… It used to be a favorite spot of ours in the seventies…
Good post.
I was telling my daughter that I had dinner there (when it was Pier 44) before my high school senior semi-formal and she looked at me like I had three heads, lol!
Pier 44 went under a while ago, and then someone tried to make a go of it with a new restaurant but failed – the property’s been largely abandoned while there was haggling about what could be done with it if there was a no restaurant… the town was able to purchase it last year and is going to use it as a community building, lucky all of us!!
The cake was as delicious as it was gorgeous, btw. 🙂
Golly 375! I am going to a mere 150 in a few weeks and that is considered old for my country.
