It was grey and hushed today – what a strange winter it has been thus far. I read a story today about the lack of snowfall – apparently this December may go down in the books as one of the least snowy on record.
After wading through the traffic of the transfer station – people, you don’t have to wait in a line ten cars deep for a spot directly in front of your recycling bin of choice, I promise the walk isn’t very taxing from the other spaces! – I spotted this gull perched on an old piling in the Herring River across the street. He was just what I needed to regain calm and quiet and return to a state of hushed late December.

It’s nice to notice (and pictures) touchstones of calm. Sometimes deep breathing only goes so far.
Birds can do that Ali, they have a very calming effect and it’s always such a great feeling when you manage to snap one. Nice shot.
