The flags in front of the Gates School were dancing in yesterday’s winds. (Today was rainy and gross, so I thought we’d all enjoy a sunnier image from the day before.)

I should google this one. Isn’t “Don’t give up the ship” from Commodore Perry, and wasn’t it in the Great Lakes or the St. Lawrence? So, why is it on a flagpole in eastern Massachusetts? The mystery deepens . . .
It’s true that Perry flew a flag with the phrase “Don’t Give Up the Ship” at Lake Eerie – but he was inspired by the USS Cheseapeake’s Captain James Lawrence, who uttered these words at the last in a battle off Boston during the War of 1812. This battle was apparently viewable from Scituate and as a fundraiser this year the Scituate Historical Society sold flags and the like with this motto. 🙂
We’ve got winds like yours, but occasionally rainy and gross at the same time. Your sun – day old or not – looks good.
We had sleet the other day! Yuck! Mostly it’s been nice, although colder than I’d like right now. 😉
