A moment of quiet

It’s the last day of school here in Scituate. I’m enjoying the last moments of solitude and quiet before summer – before the giddy joy of sand-speckled toes wiggling on the beach, the chasing of fireflies in twilight-hushed skies, the tasting of melting ice cream while sitting on a sun-warmed bench in the harbor and listening to the wind plucking at the rigging of the sailboats. I’m listening to silence and anticipating fireworks blossoming in the sky on the third of July while bonfires light up the coastline. I’m sitting alone in my study and thinking of the crowds at Heritage Days and the carnival and and how the neon lights up everything with its peculiar glow and the air smells like cotton candy and popcorn.

I’m sitting here alone in the quiet – and overjoyed that the quiet is coming to an end.

  1. Quiet can never be overrated as far as I’m concerned. Enjoy all the upcoming events, Ali.

    • I enjoy the quiet and the solitude deeply, and am an introvert – but after the year we’ve had, we feel entitled to make a bit of noise and revel in it! 🙂

  2. Beautiful! We, too, are so excited about all that summer in Scituate will bring. Hope you have a wonderful summer and hope to see you around town x

    • I hope so too, Danielle! This time I’ll actually make the connection at that moment, hopefully. 😉
