Such a small, brightly colored creature – but the Monarch butterfly is tougher than it looks. This little bug is capable of flying across continents and oceans. It may well be that this particular butterfly is dreaming of Bermuda or even England…

There’s a place near Monterey, California where these beauties stop on their annual migration. It’s quite a sight when they gather there. I think they’re on their way to Mexico or Central America.
There are a lot of really interesting legends and stories about them… fascinating creatures!
I am so excited. Last winter in Florida I went to a butterfly garden and learned that monarch butterflies only feed on milkweeds, and today I see your photo of a monarch on . . . milkweed! Be still, my heart.
