Today is the first day of the month, which means it’s Theme Day for members of the worldwide City Daily Photo community. The theme for August 2012 is “Numbers.”
This parking grid at the North Scituate commuter rail station is full of numbers, numbers, numbers. For the blissfully uninitiated, here’s how it works:
Park your car and note the number of the parking space. It costs $4 to park for the day and if you don’t pay in advance you’ll be slapped with a $21 fine – so be sure you’ve got four $1 bills in your pocket. Fold each bill into a tiny rectangle, just big enough to fit into the slot number that corresponds with your parking space. Too big or too thick and it won’t fit and you have to start all over with your folding. And once you’ve got those bills in the correct shape, you need to push them into the slot one at a time, using a key or the provided metal tool to make sure they go all the way in the proper space. You don’t get credit for partial payment or bills that didn’t quite make it into the slot, so make sure you get it right! Oh, and don’t forget that your train is pulling in momentarily and that you’ve got other commuters behind you waiting their turn! Fun, fun, fun!
The MBTA recently introduced a Pay by Phone option for smartphone users and a monthly parking permit which allows commuters to bypass this antiquated board entirely. Phew!
There are two methods of visiting contributions from other City Daily Photo Blogs this month: the premier (official) method is to join the CDPB group within Face Book that Eric Tenin moderates; the second method, for those of you who do not belong to FB, is to post to the temporary linky page at CDPB Theme Day.

ohhh i know a lot of angry commuters would be waiting behind me while trying to get my ones in just so!
It is an infuriating system, Tanya!
Now there’s some numbers you don’t want to get wrong.
So many numbers, so many possibilities for error…!
I like your choice for this theme day. Thanks for sharing with us all.
Thank you!
