Central Park

  1. I went to kindergarten there, in one of the rounded rooms on the Lawson Tower end of the building. This was in the mmid-1960s and I walked from the Utility Road neighborhood. In 1966, I was transferred to the new Cushing School.

Central in the 1960s was even then an old school. It had a distinct industrial quality to it and we called the restrooms “the basement,” which was a curious New England appellation that had been around since my grandparents’ time, when restrooms were located in the basement of a building.
