Central Park was a school building until the mid-1980s – I have a friend who says she went to kindergarten there. It is now senior citizen housing and is located right next door to the town library.

I went to kindergarten there, in one of the rounded rooms on the Lawson Tower end of the building. This was in the mmid-1960s and I walked from the Utility Road neighborhood. In 1966, I was transferred to the new Cushing School.
Central in the 1960s was even then an old school. It had a distinct industrial quality to it and we called the restrooms “the basement,” which was a curious New England appellation that had been around since my grandparents’ time, when restrooms were located in the basement of a building.
Suzanna, thank you so much for sharing this!! I love hearing these stories andI know readers do as well!
