Sandy

This photo was taken on Monday morning at about 7:15 am, as Sandy was working her way up the coast.

Locals will recognize the house by Minot Beach. It was windy enough that the my SUV rocked in its parking spot and raining to boot, so I just grabbed a quick out-the-window shot. Then we went home and hunkered down.

We were lucky – while the lights did an awful lot of flickering we never lost power and we were warm and cozy in our home. We were prepared for the worst and we got the best outcome. I only wish those in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut could say the same.

This morning we decided it was safe enough for us to do a little drive-about. As of 11:00 am this morning, the surf was still incredibly high and strong. The jetties out at Scituate Lighthouse were all but covered:

Once we saw that the waves were actually coming over the seawall by Rebecca Road and into the Lighthouse parking lot, we decided it was time to leave. The Lighthouse keeper has enough to worry about without spectators getting washed away.

I hope everyone came through safe and sound!

  1. The photographs of New Jersey and New York are very sobering. I’m glad you were able to come through safe and sound!

  2. They really are, Kay. We are incredibly lucky here.
